Local and sustainable
Is good country milk with cream on the top and artisanal butter produced locally and sustainable a dream? Not around here if you know where to shop.
While we don't fully practice the 100 mile Diet I do support the principles and where the local product is produced ethically and sustainably I will choose it over other products even if it costs more. Country Valley dairy products are produced some small distance west of here in a family based business. The local Woolworths stores sell Country Valley milk and dairy products and I was delighted to find their unhomogenised full cream milk in a local greengrocer's, making yoghurt has never before been so easy.
The artisanal Pepe Saya butter is produced 100% from Country Valley cream, it is thick, luscious and incomparably sweet with no heavy after taste, there is literally no comparison between Pepe Saya butter and standard supermarket offerings.
Products such as these don't come cheaply but do come at a fair price for the product offered, I prefer to pay twice or three times as much as the standard supermarket price if I get the 'real deal' and support local farmers.
